Like most cities in the UK, Liverpool has a thriving and resurgent independent food & drink scene. Amongst the street food inspired restaurants and trendy bars,Liverpool’s coffee scene is also thriving.
We’ve put together a list of our favourite independent coffee shops in Liverpool City Centre and beyond that we think you should try.
Given we are spoilt for choice for good coffee, this list was hard to put together, but here it is!
Best Coffee Shops In Liverpool City Centre
92 Degrees Coffee

There’s no better place to start than 92 Degrees Coffee.
Founded in 2014 in Liverpool’s very own Georgian Quarter, the coffee shop now has 16 locations across Liverpool, Manchester, Leeds, Edinburgh & Glasgow with more on the way and big plans to expand in the near future.
There’s several locations across Liverpool alone, with shops on Hardman Street, Jamaica Street, Myrtle Street along with shops inside both Central Station and Lime Street.
Bold Street Coffee
If you happen to be walking along Bold Street on the weekend, there’s a huge chance you will see the queue at Bold Street Coffee spiral out the shop & spilling out onto the road.
The coffee is great, but it’s not just about the coffee. There’s a wide range of breakfast, brunch and sandwiches on offer, as well as freshly baked sweet treats.
We would also recommend trying out their signature and now famous ‘Buoys’ – a toasted a brioche bun filled with scrambled egg, melted cheese and your choice of fillings, from sausage patties, bacon, avocado & hash browns!
Bold Street Coffee has since expanded into Manchester, where they have 3 locations.
Ropes & Twines
Another great coffee shop on Bold Street, Ropes & Twines not only offer speciality coffee, but they also have an extensive selection of wines.
Ropes & Twines is a stylish spot to relax to enjoy their single origin coffee (and their wines!).
Lovelocks Coffee Shop
Situated on Old Haymarket, just at the top of Dale Street, and a short walk from Moorfields and over the road from the World Museum, you will find Lovelocks Coffee Shop.
Lovelocks is an independent coffee shop which only sells ethically sourced coffee from local roasters.
They have a fantastic breakfast menu, from veggie & vegan breakfasts to pancakes & french toast.
Café Tabac
Another one for Bold Street, Cafe Tabac has been has been at the heart of the Liverpool cafe scene for 50 years, having been established in 1974.
Naturally, they sell great coffee, but also offer a wide range of food, as well as also being a bar with a whole range of cocktails and beers on offer.
Mother Espresso
Situated on Wood Street, in Ropewalks, Mother Espresso is a minimalist, Scandinavian inspired coffee shop that doesn’t disappoint.
There’s a real variety of coffee on offer here, from different blends to different brewing methods.
The Lemonade Joe is a favourite (double espresso + homemade lemonade), and the hot chocolate is worth a try too (you can even add a shot of whiskey in!).
There’s also a wide variety of teas, beers & cocktails to get stuck into, along with freshly baked bagels, arancini and banana bread.
The Bagelry
The Bagelry, situated on Nelson Street in China town not only sells great coffee, they also sell great bagels (if you hadn’t guessed already).
And by great bagels, we mean great bagels.
It may be a bit further out of the city centre, but we highly recommended heading here for some coffee and a bagel. It’s worth it.
