Docklands Fish & Chips Restaurant
£ | Takeaway/Casual DIning | Open 11-7pm Mon-Sun
Technically more of a fast food joint than cafe, but definitely deserves a mention. The world famous Docklands Fish & Chips is worth a stop off for anybody looking to fill up on some freshly cooked comfort food.
This highly rated chip shop serves a range of generously portioned takeaway dishes and always appears to be a popular choice when passing by. Stop by and enjoy the view in the outdoor seating area, or order to takeaway and enjoy your food whilst wandering around the dock. You’ll find a range of reasonably priced pastries, sandwiches and hot dishes on offer. The Fab 4 Cafe also offers afternoon tea for £20pp, but be sure to book in advance before visiting.
Their sister site can be found at the Pier Head Mersey ferry terminal.

Quayside Cafe
£ | Cafe | Open Tues- Sun 10-3.45pm
Situated on the ground floor of the Maritime Museum, the cafe serves a range of hot food, sandwiches, cakes and drinks. This is the perfect place to stop for some light refreshments, especially if visiting the museum itself. There is outdoor seating available overlooking the Albert Dock.
Rough Handmade
£ | Cafe/Bakery | Open 7.30-4pm Mon-Fri | 8.30-4pm Sat-Sun
Rough Handmade is a boutique bakery selling a range of pastries, loaves and savoury treats which are all baked fresh on site daily.
We’re not exaggerating when we say these pastries are the best around and if you plan to visit, you’ll want to get there early (particularly on weekends or bank holidays) as this little eatery is super popular and is known to sell out of its tastiest goods by late morning. Please note the closing times above may vary, as this popular venue has been known to close its doors early once all the goodies have sold out.
Their hot chocolate and freshly made sandwiches are equally as delicious, so if you can’t get your hands on a particular pastry, fear not as there will still be something tasty to be eaten.
Seating is very limited both in and outside this small but mighty eatery, so we recommend buying your food and enjoying it elsewhere around the Albert Dock (or take a seat outside one of the nearby restaurants if they have not yet opened).
Top tip: If you have a sweet tooth try the Dulce de Leche and thank us later…
Rubens
£ | Coffee Shop | Open 8.30-4pm Mon -Thurs | 8.30-5pm Fri- Sun
Rubens is a local independent coffee shop that has found success across its ever growing number of venues. Rubens is the perfect pit stop break for visitors enjoying the sights of the Albert Dock.
Expect to find premium roasted coffee, breakfasts, soups and cakes, alongside alcoholic beverages, milkshakes and more. The prices are pretty reasonable in comparison to some of the bigger name coffee shops and the menu is much more varied.
Top tip: Grab a blanket and dine al fresco in the outdoor seating area overlooking the dock.
Tate Cafe
£ | Cafe | Open daily 10-5.50pm (currently RIBA North venue only)
*Please note the Tate Albert Dock site is temporarily closed for refurbishment. The cafe operating at the RIBA North venue is open for breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea.
